SAVE OUR STREAMS

WE MUST ACT NOW !!!

Because We Treasure Our Streams & Their Surrounding Lands

As residents of Ridgefield, we take great joy from the natural beauty that surrounds us. The USDA's Norwalk River Watershed Program is threatening to decommission a dam right in our own backyard.  This dam allows the Norwalk River to flow in a moderated manner through our beautiful town and has successfully done so since its inception in 1979.  If the project moves ahead, the river will be reconnected to a flood plain, putting their lives and property at risk. Worse still, the newly created wetlands would overlap with septic systems, threatening local ecosystems and wildlife. The decommissioning plan fails to adequately address either factor -- short of proposing the construction of ten-foot-high walls in the middle of private property. We must act now before such a ill-conceived plan comes to pass.
